Developing a Local Church Policy on Sexual Misconduct

Churches must be proactive in addressing sexual misconduct (including sexual/gender harassment and sexual abuse).

Why Develop a Policy

There are five essential reasons why every local church must develop a policy regarding sexual misconduct and keep it updated each year.

1.       SAFETY

2.       PREVENTING HARM

3.       REDUCING LIABILITY

4.       CHURCH LAW

5.       EDUCATION

Read guidelines developed by the General Council on Finance and Administration and the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women.

Read an annotated sample policy illustrating the guidelines, above.
